An experimental machine that combined the features of a mobile suit and mobile armor, tested in absolute secrecy as part of the Gundam Development Project conducted by the Federation Forces and Anaheim Electronics.
It was loaded with every weapon imaginable, in an effort to fulfill the Gundam Development Project's concept of "history's strongest mobile weapon."
Because it was assumed that this machine would be used mainly to defend bases in space, the armed base Orchis was developed into a massive weapon storage unit.
It was highly mobile thanks to its huge propellant supply, and its armament included a mega beam cannon with incredible firepower.
Combined with a beam weapon-nullifying I-Field generator, these gave it overwhelming combat capabilities.
